I wonder if this thought/idea drives a great deal of some of the nonsense we see today? If you place no value on what you are doing and who you are, then you have to either worship the past or make the present the best/worst/great/most horrific time ever.
I believe so. There is a secular version of this for sure. Aside from chronological snobbery, we're all desperate for our lives to be more significant than they are. History provides a harsh reality check without the light of God's purposes recasting the insignificant in eternal colors (spelled correctly).
What I find interesting here is that we all love stories about links in chains, or my role is to prepare the way- but we really want to be the Messiah.
